Countertops

Choices to make on your kitchen wood countertops:

What wood should I use?
There are many woods available for custom wood tops.  Some of our most popular are:

    • Mesquite
    • Brazilian Cherry
    • Walnut
    • Teak
    • Red Oak
    • Honduran Mahogany
    • Tiger wood
    • Santos Mahogany

Each wood has it's own unique characteristics, and some may be more appropriate than others in certain applications.  We are always happy to help you with your specific requirements.

We also work with several other wood types and often have specialty woods like Purple heart, Maple, Pecan, Texas Pecan. Just call us and let us know what you have in mind.

Construction styles?

The two most popular styles are:
Face grain: The top is constructed showing the wide face of the board. Our most popular indeed. It shows the true color and beauty of the wood  you pick.  When using wide boards we reinforce the countertop with an underlayment to ensure many,  many years of beautifull looks and performance.

Edge grain: The top is construted with narrow strips of the wood, (usually ¾” to 1”) and than joined together. These type of construction is preferred when for heavy use, such as profetional kitchens or when using meat tenderizing hammers.

The edge is only to complement the style of your countertop and to make it fit with the rest of your kitchen décor.
The edge can be the same thicknes of the countertop or it can be wider.

There are numerous options available for styling the edges of your solid wood kitchen countertop, island top, or butcher block.  Some of the most common designs are shown in the table below.
